The Ultimate Guide for teens to
be empowered by understanding the four (4) essential skills to make informed decisions as they enter ADULTHOOD.
Understanding the interlink between money, self-care, and self-presentation is a powerful tool to propel teens forward with clarity for their career choice(s). Whether starting with college, technical/trade school, military, or entering the workforce, teens should have an understanding of the following:
Money makes the world go round - teens should understand the value of a dollar. We will create a budget and move towards their ideal scenario for life after high school. Budget creation will also serve as self-discovery. Next, we'll discuss loan types - personal loans to mortgages and everything in between. Money 101 will end with an overview of the infamous credit score.
|
Self-Care is an essential part of our daily lives. We will discuss the importance of identifying a support system - no matter the chapter of life. Connections are powerful and provide opportunity. Additionally, we will cover the need for healthy habits and the value of honoring emotional needs. Teens may be afraid to make decisions about their future and this section will help them find the courage needed to move forward.
|
Self-Presentation another super important skill in life. We are continually having to present our best-self whether on social media, work, or daily interactions. In this section, teens will be guided to define their story - good, bad, adverse, positive, accomplished - or a combination of all. Their story will be the foundation for a resume, college application, scholarship essay, and portfolio.
|
SKILLS Pay the Bills - the last week of the course will be about digging down and finding what makes the individual happy. We all have to make money somehow, but what if our career choice was made based on our skills, our calling? In this section, teens be guided to identify their top 3 career choices and create an actionable game plan to pursue each one. The skills covered in this course will provide clarity when creating their individual game plan.

A note from Yeri (SkillsConnection Academy creator)....
Hello/Hola,
I created this course after working for a school district and realizing that our young adults are graduating high school without some of the most essential skills to make smart and informed decisions. Some do not understand the value of a budget, a loan, and/or a credit report. Some teens do connect the need to establish a sound support system for success or the value of their story for a scholarship or a resume, but they are expected to choose a career path and move forward! Well, life doesn't work well without essential life skills - we all read the stories of young adults with a ton of college debt and pursuing a degree that does not generate enough money to pay off those loans. But what if teens understood the connection of money when making career choices, and the value of their story and changed their life trajectory? I created this course as a proven formula to create a game plan for life after high-school. A connection is powerful and the skills will help connect the complete picture as teens enter the next chapter of life. As a professional performance auditor, I understand that these four (4) skills are essential for any business - no matter the industry! Money (financials), Sanity, Presentations, and Skills are the four (4) things that make the world go around. I have audited financial institutions, government services, and educational institutions and for the most part - they all work the same way and rely on these four pillars. As an auditor, I connected humans to opportunities for improvement. But here's the thing: Despite working as an auditor for almost 20 years, I realized that my passion is working with young adults - because they are our future, they light-up a room, and they have so much potential. I am empowering young adults to connect with opportunities and make informed decisions about their future. In addition to founding SkillsConnection.org and the SkillsConnection Academy, I am also a curriculum developer and adjunct professor at Truckee Meadows Community College. In this role, I connect “soft skills” to day-to-day tasks in the workplace, which includes personal effectiveness, academic and workplace competencies. This is just a little about my professional story. What can I do for your teen? In the SkillsConnection Academy, I guide them on weekly basis. We will engage in active discussions during our weekly live sessions. Students will be empowered and much better informed about their career choices after this course. Can't wait to work with your teen! Best wishes - Yeri Mom of two college students |
