𝘚𝘩𝘦 found her voice, she found power and strength in her journey. She is no longer afraid to share her story.
A story of adversity including belonging to a first-generation Mexican immigrant family, as well as dealing with traumatic family experiences. In her young age she became the sustaining rock of her family. Her story of resilience will help other teens overcome adversity, and reach their potential. Her desire to achieve 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘧𝘶𝘭. 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 honored to call her my friend and so proud of her accomplishments. She is Carson High School's 2020 𝐂𝐓𝐄 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫, and she will become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in less than a year from graduating high school. She will continue her studies and will become a bilingual trauma nurse. As a high school student, she was selected to participate in the following hands-on learning programs: The University of Nevada Reno (UNR) Community of Bilingual English-Spanish Speakers (CBESS) exploring issues in science and health, the Perry Initiative, building the pipeline for women in engineering and medicine, and at Click Bond, where she shadowed engineers and learned how engineering intersects with orthopedic surgery. She will succeed because she also understands the value of working while going to school. Balancing work with school is an invaluable skill. An experience that provides hands-on learning and helps connect theory to practice. She is doing it against all odds. 𝘚𝘩𝘦 inspires me in so many ways! Her story is worth noting, it is inspiring. She is fierce, free, and full of Fire! #sisepuede #biligual #latina #estiempo #indemandcareers #traumanurse #plansafterhighschool #powerinherstory #CBESS #Perryinitiative #skillsconnection #yourfuture #ourfuture #thefutureisbright #latinasinhealthcare #orgullo #clickbond #CBESS #firstgeneration #mexicanamerican #diversitymatters #suicideprevention #EMT #orgullomexicano#womeninhealthcare #skills #workexperience #classof2020 📩𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙚 𝙖 𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 have questions!

Labeled as the #brownone, I was told I was too #ambitious and expected #change too fast! I was told change would not come for at least five (5) years! Finally, I feel strong enough to write about being #marginalized at a place of employment, which happens to be an educational institution. I have been heartbroken from this situation and realize #gasligthting actually happens. It happened to me. It’s real...I lived it for the first time in my professional career! It happens in the K-12 educational system. Five years...what happens in five years? A first grader will be going into middle school...believing they can’t because they are different. A middle schooler will graduate high school and will be conditioned to believe they can’t achieve because they are different! Almost an entire generation will be #marginalized in some way. You don’t believe me? Ask for the data, see what percent of the student population is succeeding (as we know it). What percentage is attaining acceptable ACT/SAT scores? (For what they are worth) What percentage is receiving scholarships? What percentage is recruited for college sports? What percentage has a real opportunity? We all deserve better! #Standup. #Speakup. Thanks @jenniferhatmaker for helping me understand. 💙 Join me at SkillsConnection to help change the trajectory of our youth! https://m.facebook.com/SkillConnections #changethefuture #latinx #opportunity #sisepuede #changeyourmindset #minorities #latinasinuniform #latinaveteran |
